It’s New Music Friday and American rapper Post Malone has released a new single to celebrate Pokémon Day tomorrow.
The rapper released a cover of “Only Wanna Be With You” by Hootie and the Blowfish. This song was made by this band in 1995 and it became an instant hit. Hearing Malone’s version of the song had me engaged.
Malone’s version had an echoing guitar and sound effects that are from an original Pokémon video game. When I started playing the song, I could hear someone opening a Pokéball and releasing a Pokémon. It gave me a nostalgic feeling like I was playing that game again. It was an original cover that combined nostalgia and infectious beats.
There will be a virtual concert tomorrow night on Youtube in celebrating the release of Pokémon Red and Green, according to CNet. Malone will be headlining the virtual concert with his new cover song. The concert will kick off Feb. 27 at 7 p.m. ET.
For those who are fans of Post Malone and/or Pokémon, this cover song of “Only Wanna Be With You” is the ideal choice.
