Wake up members of my nation, it’s your time to be. The popular Nickelodeon series iCarly is getting a reboot on Paramount+.
(WARNING: The following content contains spoilers for those who haven’t seen the Nickelodeon show.)
iCarly was about a group of best friends that started their own comedy web show iCarly, while also dealing with everyday problems and adventures. This new reboot is set to premiere in 2021 with Miranda Cosgrove, Jerry Trainor and Nathan Kress to return as their original characters. However, Jennette McCurdy and Noah Munck are not part of the reboot cast (at least not now).
Cosgrove played the main character Carly Shay. She was the leader of her group and she not only started her web show, she also figures out ways to get out of trouble. Carly was smart, kind, sweet and courageous. When the series ended in 2012, she was leaving her friends to spend time with her dad in Italy. Now we’ll find out what she’s doing now.
McCurdy played the role of Sam Puckett. Sam was Carly’s best friend and co-host of iCarly or as she said her “amusing little sidekick.” She was the rebel of the group meaning that she was often late, getting into trouble and causing mischief. However, she was a cool and loyal friend to her group. The last time Sam was seen she was in the spin-off series with Ariana Grande called Sam & Cat. Show was cancelled after one season, so now time will tell if we’ll see Carly’s meat loving best friend again.
Kress portrayed Freddie Benson. Freddie was the technical producer of iCarly and the brains of the group. He lives across the hall from Carly and had an unrequited crush on her for years. However, when Carly was leaving for Italy in the series finale she gave Freddie a kiss and he secretly raised his fists in happiness. Now the question is….will they be together in the new reboot?
Trainor played Carly’s older brother Spencer Shay. Spencer was Carly’s legal guardian and he was an artist. But, he was also a goofy man-child while Carly was the more responsible one. That type of relationship had the viewers laughing out loud. Spencer was a fan favorite throughout the series and now we’ll get to see more of him in the reboot. Will he still be a man-child?
Munck portrayed Gibby, the groups eccentric friend. People liked Gibby for his unusual antics and humorous characters on the web show. He started out as a recurring character for the first three seasons, but his popularity grew and made him part of the main cast in season four and beyond. Now it’s unclear if Gibby will come back to the family.
Each of these characters have brought laughter, joy and more laughter from 2007-2012. The show won them several awards and numerous Emmy nominations. Fans even shared recipes for Spencer’s famous spaghetti tacos.
Details and the official release date of the reboot have yet to be revealed. Stay tuned for more information about the iCarly reboot coming to Paramount+.
