Many fans (including me) know about the Arrowverse, a franchise of DC superhero shows. Now the name is changing to the CWverse.
(WARNING: The following content contains spoilers for those who haven’t seen any of the shows or crossovers.)
A new trailer has arrived for the return of the CW shows in 2021. It shows every DC superhero in the franchise. Everyone of those shows started with Arrow.
Arrow first debuted on the CW in 2012 and after that success it led to more superhero series. Then came The Flash, DC’s Legends of Tomorrow, Supergirl, Black Lightening, Batwoman and the upcoming show Superman & Lois. However, all of that changed after the last big crossover.
In December 2019, the Crisis on Infinite Earths crossover arrived. Towards the end of the event Oliver Queen (Stephen Amell) sacrificed himself in order to reboot the universe. After that heroic moment, every DC show now takes place on Earth-Prime.
Now that Arrow has come to an end, the franchise got a new name with the help of the trailer. Although it relieves old and memorable moments from the past, it encourages the fans to start calling it the CWverse.
Fans have been calling it the Arrowverse for the past six years. It all started with Arrow, so I can see how changing the name would be a drastic decision. But since Arrow came to end, a new name would be interesting. Whether the CWverse will stick or not, we will still have new seasons and a new show to look forward to in 2021.
