Sonic the Hedgehog, the movie based on the popular video game franchise is officially getting a sequel. Paramount Pictures had made this announcement yesterday and after the first film’s success.
(WARNING: The following content contains spoilers for those who have not seen the original movie.)
When the original movie was first coming out, it received some comments from people. The fans had negative feedback to the original character design. After that, the movie was postponed to Feb. 14 with a new look for Sonic to make him more like himself in the video games.
After the movie’s release it became a box office success. It made over $306 million and some positive feedback from critics and fans. A sequel was hinted during the mid-credit scene of the original movie. Tails, a twin-tailed fox and Sonic’s sidekick, came to Earth through a ring. He showed up looking for Sonic and rushes to find him.
Now that a sequel is officially happening, Jeff Fowler is returning to direct. In addition, Pat Casey and Josh Miller are coming back to the franchise to write the script, according to Den of Geek. No official decisions have been made about the cast. Fans (including me) hope that some of the original cast will return. Let’s hope Ben Schwartz will return to be the voice Sonic, James Marsden will come back as Tom Wachowski a.k.a. the “Doughnut Lord” and Jim Carrey will be Dr. Robotnik again.
Sonic the Hedgehog was on the movies that appeared in our theaters just before the COVID-19 pandemic started. Although the theaters are still closed, people still have some movies look forward to seeing in the future. Sonic the Hedgehog 2 is officially in the works and it’s one movie that I’m going to see when the theaters reopen.
