The Emmy award winning series Game of Thrones has concluded and rumors have been going around about having prequels and spin-offs. One thing that is definitely happening is a prequel called House of the Dragon.
Originally, HBO was going to do another prequel starring Naomi Watts. It was to take place thousands of years ago before there were dragons, Targaryens and the Iron Throne. However, HBO had decided to cancel that show.
House of Dragon will be centered around the Targaryen family. The show will take place 300 years before the events of Game of Thrones. Basically, it will tell the stories of the Targaryen kings who had long ruled Westeros, according to CNBC.com.
Emilia Clarke, who had portrayed Daenerys Targaryen on the show had been a fan favorite for years. We had seen her take over lands, ride dragons and burned down King’s Landing. Now we will witness her ancestors ruling the seven kingdoms.
George R.R. Martin, the author of Fire & Blood heard the news this week and he already expects to be involved. Right now he is writing his new book called Winds of Winter. Martin stated that he will not write any scripts for the upcoming series until he finishes his new novel, according to Entertainment Weekly.
Although HBO just announced the show this week, they plan on having ten episodes for the first season. So basically it’s about the same as seasons 1-6 of Game of Thrones.
No official decisions have been made about the cast or the premier date of the series. If this means more stories in Westeros then it should be interesting.
