Rumors have been spreading all over the internet about how Welsh actor Taron Egerton will be playing the next Wolverine in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU).
Egerton stopped the rumors by stating that he is not playing the heroic mutant, but he is open to it.
This rumor started with a tweet from Marvel Comics writer Mark Millar. On July 15 he tweeted that Egerton would be the next Wolverine. However, no official decisions have been made.
Despite shutting down the rumors, the Robin Hood star is interested in being part of the MCU.
“I love Marvel and I love the movies and I’d love the excuse to get in shape,” Egerton said on Variety. “I’d love to be a part of it, whether [Wolverine] is realistic or not, I don’t know.”
Wolverine was previously portrayed by Australian actor Hugh Jackman. For 17 years and nine X-Men movies, Jackman captured the character well. He was intense, brooding, ruthless and fearless. Basically, he has set the bar high.
Jackman and Egerton had worked together in the past. In 2016, they both starred in the sports-drama movie Eddie the Eagle. Egerton would make contact with his former co-star before deciding to take the role, according to Variety.
