Could this thing BE a bigger change! It has been announced on Tuesday that the classic sitcom Friends is officially leaving Netflix in 2020.
Netflix announced on Twitter that the show will be moving to the upcoming WarnerMedia streaming service, HBO Max. This will be a separate streaming service from HBO Now and HBO Go.
Last year in December, Netflix and WarnerMedia made a deal. Netflix would keep the show for 2019 and then in 2020 WarnerMedia would put the show on their service. Netflix has paid around $100 million to keep the show for the year. WarnerMedia paid $425 million for five years on HBO Max, according to Business Insider.
Many of us have watched the 90’s sitcom where the gang hangs out at “Central Perk” and Phoebe (Lisa Kudrow) sings “Smelly Cat” to the crowd. Also, I enjoyed the on-again and off-again relationship between Ross (David Schwimmer) and Rachel (Jennifer Aniston). It was both dramatic and humorous.
In addition to Friends, The Office will also leave Netflix. Although both popular series are leaving, it has been decided for the shows to move on to new streaming services.
HBO Max will also hold other favored series including The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air and Pretty Little Liars. For those who wish to binge-watch these series, HBO Max will appear in 2020.
This new streaming service will have Friends in spring 2020. So, I’ll Be There For You!
